The Persian String Quartet “Chargan” took the stage on Thursday and Friday evenings of December 28 and 29, for two nights at the Rudaki Hall, and performed pieces by different composers in two parts.
The concert began with the performance of the piece Desert Varnish composed by Adam Goodwin, and then continued with the pieces “Chahargah” and “Mahli 8” composed by Sharif Lotfi, and “Gol-e Pamchal” (variations on a Gilaki folk melody) and “Chartkekeh” (Iranian fugue for four voices) by Saeed Honarmand. The first part of the concert ended with the performance of the piece “Aziz” composed by Ehsan Zabihifar (based on a folk melody).
The pieces performed in the Chargan concerts have always been written and arranged by the composers exclusively for this quartet and its musical structure.
The second part of the concert, titled “Dashti Program,” began with a solo by the Tenore Qejak and a performance of the Dashti Prelude by Yousef Foroutan. This piece was connected without a break to the next piece, and the lone Alto Qejak played the Chaharmezrab-e Dashti by Abolhasan Saba. Then the quartet performed the “Chashem-e Narges” arranged by Ehsan Zabihifar. Next, “Kamaneh-ha” (Bayat Rajah, Owj and Frooud) was played, composed by Ehsan Zabihifar, and the concert ended with the composition “Raeg” arranged by Ehsan Zabihifar.
The quartet musicians in this concert were Ehsan Zabihifar (Kamancheh), Meshkat Nasiri (Kamancheh), Azadeh Shams (Alto Qejak), and Mohammad Mehdi Basiratmanesh (Tenore Qejak).
