The Persian String Quartet “Chargan” led by Ehsan Zabihifar will go on the stage on December 28 at 8:00 PM at the Roudaki Hall with pieces by Sharif Lotfi, Saeed Hormanand, Adam Goodwin, and Ehsan Zabihifar.
In this quartet, two pieces composed by Sharif Lotfi will be performed by Chargan. Sharif Lotfi attended the Chargan’s recent rehearsal and after listening to his pieces, he said about the motivation for writing pieces for this quartet: “I tried to write pieces for these friends who are active in Chargan in order to encourage them.” The intellectual atmosphere of Chargan is derived from the same principles that I taught at the university for years; that is: creation in persian music.
The founder of the of Music Faculty of University of Arts said about the quality of the Chargan’s performance: The members of Chargan are very determined to present academic and artistic work. They have done their best until today, what they tried was enough to benefit from their education. During that I’ve been with them, I tried to convey some points to them. Overall, their individual efforts, group exercises, and my presence with them brought the work to a point where I was very satisfied with their work today.
This university professor said about the place of Persian academic music in society and the people’s reception of this music: Iranian academic music is gradually making its way in society. This doesn’t mean that it is going to replace traditional music; I think each of these has its own place and its own good and pleasant atmosphere. But until today, academic music had not introduced itself well.
Sharif Lotfi added in conclusion: Ensembles like Chargan who work hard to introduce and present academic music are in fact the founders of this path. Perhaps at the beginning of the path, there will not be much reception, but it promises to create interest in its listeners and make them more curious about listening to this music; I definitely know that this will happen soon.
