Chargan’s Concert with the Iranian String Quartet and Oud Trio (with Percussion Accompaniment) took Place

November 2012

On the 25th 26th October Chargan presented a new experience by performing a joint program with an oud trio group at Roudaki Hall.

The members of Chargan in this concert were Ehsan Zabihifar and Morteza Mokhtari (Kamancheh players), Shima Shahmohammadi (Alto Qejak player), and Bita Ghasemi (Tenor Qejak player). Notably, Bita Ghasemi replaced Hamed Afshari, one of the founders of Chargan, who had migrated to Canada the previous year.

Chargan performed six pieces by six different composers. The independent pieces varied across different genres due to the distinct composers involved. The performed pieces were “Abrupt” by Negin Zomorodi, “Agitation” by Hamed Afshari, “And His Sleeve Was Wet with Tears” by Karen Keyhani, “String Quintet” by Saeed Honarmand, “Zarbi-e Afshari” by Ardeshir Kamkar, and “Arghavan” by Ehsan Zabihifar (based on a poem by H. A. Sayeh).

In the performance of the last three pieces in this section, Chargan was accompanied by Siavash Kamkar (Santur player), Sina Khoshkbijari (Tonbak player), Hassan Mahdi Etebari (vocalist), and Solmaz Badri (vocalist), who each joined the ensemble sequentially.

The second part of the concert featured a trio of ouds with percussion accompaniment, performing pieces by Mohammadreza Ebrahimi. The performed works included “Sabouhi,” “Azal,” “Kharaman,” “Shabgir,” “Shokraneh,” “Naqsh,” “Gozaar,” “Lahzeh,” and “Majal.” The oud players in this section were Mohammadreza Ebrahimi, Azadeh Ahmadi, and Maryam Khodabakhsh, with Sina Khoshkbijari playing percussion.
